Is it worth getting inner tubes for ..?
A bike I hardly use anymore?
I usually use my Schwinn Worldsport, had a GMC Denali from Walmart prior to that which worked well as a commuter bike, but would now be too short for me.
I was just looking at it and all tire pressure is gone, maybe it just needs air but more likely needs inner tubes. Is it worth getting new inner tubes installed so I have it as a backup or should I take my chances with the Schwinn and hope nothing happens?
I am leaning towards getting new tubes, but would like to get additional opinions, and not necessarily from people who work in bike shops. (I have worked in retail enough to know many such employees just want to make a sale)
Bicycle tires naturally lose air over time. Air up the tires. That is free. Chances are good the inner tubes do not need to be replaced.
Here is a tip. Best way to reduce the chances of a flat tire is to pump up the tire every day or two before you ride.
I have ridden on thin racing style tires over 2,000 miles without a flat.
Repairing a flat tire on a bicycle is all part of bicycle ownership. I carry two spare tubes, patch kit, air pump, and three tire irons. Only need two irons, but you never know when the third one comes in handy. I carry a spare folding tire on my tandem.
