Bike Internal Hub
on a single speed bike, can you add a internal gearing to it?
what i mean is, swap out the rear hub for a internal gearing system
It can, and has been done. It is a lot easier to just get a different bike, actually. If you insist, you need the different hub, the cable, and the shifter too. They have to figure out what size spokes are needed with the new hub, and how wide it is for your rear forks. It is not too complicated, but is it really worth the trouble when you can find a multi-speed bike easy enough if you start looking. If you just want to do it for the challenge, then find a breat-up 3 speed bike and strip it. Trouble is, some of those parts are getting hard to locate for sale. Don’t forget you will also need an entire rear braking system if your current bike has a coaster brake hub now.
