Bike Pump Types
What size are the presta valve stem nuts?
Got a new bike with presta valves. The pump head won’t go on because the valve stems just push into the tube/tire. What size/type nuts do I need to get to hold them in place?
I know some tubes come with them, but I can’t buy tubes right now. I was going to go to Home Depot for the nuts.
If it’s convenient, just go by any bike shop and they’ll probably have some extras that they’ll give you for free.
Offhand, I’m guessing that they’re 4mm x .80 pitch, but take a tube with you to the hardware store in and screw on a nut to check it. You might have better luck with an Ace Hardware store than Home Depot….they usually have their hardware loose instead of several to a bag.
You got me curious now…I’ll pull out my thread guage and check that this weekend. Useless bike trivia.
