Cleaning Old Bike Parts
i want to get the rust off my bike frame and then spraipaint it again, how would i do all this?
i just got my brothers old bmx bike, and im taking it apart so i can fix it up and get some new parts for it. its kinda rusty and dirty and i want to repaint it with that antirust spraypaint, but first i want to get all the rust off and get it clean. how would i do that, can i use sand paper and rub the frame down really hard? i dont mind a little extra work.
Yes, sandpaper will work but I would recommend a wire brush to get in the tight areas. They make wire brush you can use with a drill that would make your job easier. Use eye protection! You need to get the rust off completely. Then apply a rust product that also works as a primer. Finally apply your top coat of paint in several light coats to avoid runs. Be sure to do your prep work and tape off the area so you don’t get overspray on surrounding things like the floor or cars nearby! Be careful to do things right and have fun.
