what parts would you need to fix kicker in engine?
its 1993 honda xr 200r. my dirt bike engine kick starter wont go down. i no u would have to slit engine. what parts would u need to fix kicker in engine? what would be total of all the parts

Yes, you will need to split the cases to fix the kickstarter on the XR200.
This was the one weak link on an otherwise bullet-proof engine.
You will need to replace quite a few parts – There’s two ratchet gears, two or three springs with washers, the actual kicker gear and then the idler gear on the main shaft.
All these parts aren’t necessarily bad, but it is extremely difficult to tell what is worn and what is okay, and the parts aren’t that expensive, so you’re better off replacing them all.
You will also need two gasket kits, A and B – A covers all the top end gaskets and O-rings, B is for the bottom end. Make sure there’s a kickstart seal in with the B kit.

You’ll need everything except for #4 (shaft), and with the addition of the idler gear #23520-965-680
You will also want to purchase a shop manual (Honda or Clymer) from eBay. They’re cheap and worth it so you don’t mess up.
When you get it all back together, be sure the kickstart activiated decompressor is working right – this will help keep the kicker gears from breaking again.
These are a great engine to learn on – they are very simple for a four stroke, and it’s really fun to accomplish something like a complete tear-down and reassembly.
