Dog Bike Jogger
barking dog trouble?
we just moved to a new neighborhood and our dog just goes nuts with every bike, squirrel, jogger, leaf, breeze, etc…the barking is terrible…how can we stop him from barking at every tiny thing?
Begin with one item at a time. Be sure you have your dog secured on a leash. Be assertive and relaxed (also let your dog know you are the pack leader, you are in charge), and walk your dog past the object that is bothering him. When he begins to bark, give a slight tug on the leash, and a warning noise like (tis) so that he knows he’s not to do this type of behavior (barking). Stay in that area a little while (10 minutes) or so and keep repeating the noise with a slight tug each time he barks. When I say leash here, I mean one of perhaps nylon that you can slip over your dogs head and have it lay positioned just below his ears, high up on his neck. This will give you the control you’re looking for. After your 10 minutes, move on to the next item of interest to the dog. Again, repeat the slight tug on the leash and a (tis) noise to get the dogs attention and tell him to relax. Again, you must be assertive but relaxed also.
