Am I a maverick? What is a hipster?

all my friends and family (including my 96-year-old disabled grandmother) said I'm a maverick? I have no idea what this means, but my friend says it's because I carry a lot of Urban Outfitters, reading novels and biking pretentious sets (one with no gears, brakes). My question is: What is a hipster? is this bad?
