Leather Bike Grip Tape

Fixing melty rubber bike handlebars?

The grippy rubber parts of my grip-shifters on my bike seem to have…well…melted over the winter. When I hold them, they leave a horrible sticky mess on my hands that doesn’t come off till I’ve washed them 4 times with pumice soap.

I can’t afford to buy new grips, so what can I cover them with that won’t just get sticky again later? I’ve already ruled out duct tape and electrical tape because both get really gross in the heat. Maybe the leather wrap stuff they use for golf clubs?
Lol, not a hot winter…it’s almost like the rubber just broke down. It is gross and sticky and squishy, and turns my hands black and tarry. Blech.

go to the medical aisle at a pharmacy… they sell some sticky tape that is used to apply pressure on wounds…. it does not have any glue but it is made from a sticky non messy material and it comes in some neon colors
