Would a 5’8″ woman be able to fit on a 50cm men’s bike?
I need to buy a bike and I’m a little confused by the frame sizes. Do you think I could ride this bike comfortably?
No, frame will be too small.
This size frame is better for someone around 5’4″ tall. There is a 50 cm bike in the basement so I talk from experience.
Remember, sky high seat posts are available, but does nothing to raise the handlebars. It is important to have the handlebars high enough for comfort. Personally, I like the bars to be as high as the seat. Hard to achieve that relationship on most bikes since the advent of threadless head sets. Manufacturers did not increase the length of the head tube to compensate for the lack of rise with the new threadless heads sets and handlebar stem. My custom made tandem has a head tube 9 inches long on a 60 cm frame.
You need to be fit by a professional. Also, my suggestion is to get a bike with the handlebars the same height as the seat. If the bars are too high, it is easy to lower. Hard to raise. I have met ONE person in my 30 year cycling career that wanted the bars lower. I have met hundreds of riders wishing the bars were higher.
