Mountain Bike Chain Maintenance
Bicycle maintenance?
I have not ridden a bike of mine for 8 years, and I want to remove dust. What kind of maintenance I do, in addition to the Standard Oil in the chain, tire pump? (This is a mountain bike).
After 8 years would make more than suggest. 1. Check all bearings for smooth operation. Pull the chain rings of cranking, turn the tape, pull the wheels spin in the hand, in Once the full right and fork left. If something sounds bad you may need to rebuild (or plan for the future) 2. If the bike was stored in the house (no sunlight therein) tires and tubes can be fine. If the sun and the tires may have dry rot. If the tubes have air that can be fine. 3. Check each nut and screw, quick release as well. 4. Clean and lubricate the chain, break levers, cables, etc derrailleurs 5. Fit jumps and 6 speed. If you has a suspension fork, oil pipes, check all settings and oil / air. Walk Of course this is just to go through the door. If desired, to review at some point. Furthermore, not knowing if you beat the crap out of the bike for 8 years or highway 10 times around the block is stored makes it difficult to determine what they really need. If your bike clean, slightly used and stored inside it will take half an hour. If bike was stored outdoors in the heat. cold, sunlight or for ill and abused or used hard it could take a full day.
