I’m looking at getting a new bike, and I have two in mind. Which should I pick?

Kawasaki KX26G – it seemed like a pretty good bike and it was cheaper than my other option, but id be trail-riding so i don’t think a mountain bike would quite be necessary. It didn’t have any reviews so I wasn’t sure about this one.

Schwinn Coronado – This is a comfort bike that I am really attached to. i love how it looks and it got really good reviews. It is my more expensive option, but my parents told me I shouldn’t worry about it. The customer reviews commented on the easy handling, “anti-lock breaks for bikes” (as I call it) and how smooth of a ride it would give you.

both had free shipping and both were well under $300, but the Schwinn had faster shipping. Well, that doesn’t matter since I’ll be going to a week-long summer camp.

If you know a bit about bikes (or better, have one of these and would like to give me a hand) tell me whatever you can; durability, how long it lasts, portability, weight, etc.

Ok , before we compare these two, Here’s a quick knock against both these bikes: they don’t come from a local bike shop. This could cause a few headaches.

The first is that you might have to swing the bike by a bike shop and pay a little to have the final assembly done, because it won’t come fully assembled. The second is that you’re missing out on the free service that comes with most “bike shop” bikes. Which means that when you need the first tune-up — all bikes go through a break-in period where things go screwy after about the first 50 miles — you’ll end up paying upwards of $40 for the tune-up, which would be free with a “bike shop” bike. And of course, you’d have to pay for any subsequent service. And that finishes my little spiel.

Now, between the two bikes you mentioned, I’d go with the Schwinn — it’s lighter, looks like it has slightly better components, and the tires would probably suit riding a wide variety of terrain better. And like you said, it’s prettier. One other big difference between the two is that the Schwinn has twist shifters, while the Kawa has trigger shifters. Some riders prefer one over the other, but it’s a completely personal thing.

Good luck!
