Mountain Bike Guide Buying

Do I have to put a chain guide on my 2009 Rocky Mountain SXC 50?
SXC I recently got a 50 for Christmas and its great. I love rings triple chain from the beginning, because I live in Florida, but this summer I'll be headed west. I will visit some parks mountain bike specific such as Keystone MTB Park (Colorado) and Whistler MTB Park (Canada). I'm also going to be riding in places like Moab (Utah), where there is a large park, but paths. So my question is: Should I put a chain guide on my bike this summer and again later? And if I do, then I have to buy the 3 parts: new chain ring, the chain guide (I want an LS1 e13 +) and a protector of dishes?
I have 3 chain rings on my Cannondale Prophet, I live in CO and go to Moab once a year. If I was going to lift serves parks could think of to put a bash guard instead of the big chain ring, but I think it would be another time and just replace the chain ring great if f * ed up.
