What is a good entry level mountain bikes for a college campus? ?
What is a good entry level bike mountain to a college campus? Especially roads and trails? A local bike shop has the Gary Fisher Mako has 289 and other Giants from 275 (not sure of the model) I have read conflicting views on the Mako. Some say it's good that others, such as his shit and has a lot of chain suck. Does anyone here have any experience or advice? Thanks in advance! I have a lock fahgettaboudit kryptonite and I will bring into my apartment when I'm home, so I'm not too worried too about it getting stollen. My biggest concern is that some people report falling chain, while the gearbox and chain suck. I think it was year models though.
Honestly, it was better to buy something used that actually seems a beating. The reason is that bicycles are stolen constantly in universities, and a shiny new bicycle, even a cheap one, will attract more attention than a beater bike to good use. Check www.craigslist.com and see what that is, you can often get a model that is only a couple of years for a third of original cost, which will be better than an entry level bike, but it is not likely to attract thieves. If you really want to buy new, really does not matter what you get at that price level, since all are basic and have components very basic. Just go with one you like and feel good.
