Recumbent Bike Flags

recumbent bike flags
Which side of the traffic lane should you ride?

Today a fellow in a van honked me quite a way back in the traffic in london, he said why don’t you keep to the right so you can be seen. I was on my 3 wheeled recumbent trike, i replied if i do that the speedos honk me to get out of the way, if i go into the central lane the lorries honk me because they want to pass and if i go into the bus lane the buses honk me for not going fast enough.
Daft isn’t it, more so when i am told it’s now safer to cycle in london.
The trouble is i am seen because i have a large flag on my bike and never need to worry about the lorries at stops as i keep away from them. So why can’t people mind their own business, more so as the fellow actually opened his door without looking and i thought for a moment he was going to lose his door.
Do you get people reacting too much over too little on the road when you cycle

Hi ManicMajor,
I read your question, and I felt for you. I ride a road bike on quiet country lanes around Somerset, it is my stress release after a day in the office. But like you, even on quiet country lanes there are drivers who by no means allow enough room when overtaking, and tell me that I should take more care when cycling. Unfortunately, you get far more abuse from drivers because you’re in the city, but this isn’t unique to the city, some farmers on their tractors have even had a go at me (and I’m not sitting on a 3 wheeled recumbent trike). Sadly, I get the impression that if you’re on a bike, the rest of the world think they have a right to tell you where and how you ought to be riding your bike. Ironicily, if they were to get on a bike themselves, they would suddenly realise what a menace they are to cyclists (i.e car doors opening right in front of them). I hope this has reassured you a little, that it’s not just in the city that this happens.

We highly recommend this as a safety feature and our flag is much cooler than the standard-issue orange triangle! The flag now comes with streamers which attach by velcro and are great for rear visibility. The pole is easily attached to your trike by sliding it into the seat tube, simply punch a small hole in the seat tube cap. There is no hardware needed and the seat bag will not interfere. Our tr…
