Road Bike Buying Guide

what size road bike should i buy?
Hi I am a 40ish male trying to get off the mountain bikes and onto a road bike with little success,
I am 6’1 with a 83mm inseam and currently use a friends 58cm sloping tube apollo road bike to give it a go but the seat post is past the min insertion mark by an inch and i have over 2 inches of spacers on the fork tube to get the stem up close to comfortable.
this led me to believe that I needed a much larger frame eg; a 62cm or similar but all the guides i have looked at and a couple of bike shops have said i need a horizontal tube 55cm frame ?
can anyone help ?
regards Darren
Of the two measurements, height and inseam, inseam is more important. You can use the chart below to get an ( Idea ) of the recommended frame size for someone your Height and Inseam should ride but you really need to go to a bike shop and be fitted because there are to many other things to be considered for proper bike fit.
If you follow the link below there is a Related article: Adjusting Your Bike For Proper Fit there and it will explain all the things you need to take into consideration.
