Road Bike Inner Tube Sizes
How do I know what inner tube size do i buy for my bike?
I was working on a old Bianchi road bike and just happen to buy some new inner tubes (27 x 1 1/4) for it since the old ones popped. I inflated the inner tube just a little and fitted it on the bike rim which is the same size. I noticed that the inner tube was not fitted tight on the bike rim, it just sort of popped out from one side. Then when I put the bike tire on (also the same size) I saw that that when i put it on all around and started to inflate it slowly, it sort of created a bulge. I was finally able to tuck it in the bike rim and started riding it. Once I rode it for a few minutes it came out again.
Am I supposed to buy a smaller inner tube for the bike?
The simplest way to determine the correct size of the tube is determine the tire size by looking at the embossed size on the sidewall of the tire then go to a local bike shop with that number and they should be able to supply the right one.
Your problem may be more than the tube size as you describe it. There could be a problem with the tires themselves if they’re really old. It may be a good idea to take one of your rims to the shop with you. Some of those older road bikes had tire sizes that are not normally stocked.
