650C fork and front wheel on a 52-size Van-Nicholas Ti frame?
Hi. I’m using a 52 c-c slooping top-tube Van Nicholas Ti frame and at present is utilizing 700C wheelsets. I find this frame a little bit big for my 5’0″ height. I am thinking of changing the front wheel with 650C fork and wheelset so that it will fit to my small height proportionately; I have to tip-toe while stopping at road signs. I reckon that by changing the front wheel and fork to 650C will at least help my problem; any idea what disadvantages it might have on the performance of the bike as well as the rider? I am already aware of the cost that it might have on me as well as bringing along two sizes of spare tubes while training. Thanks.
The small wheel on the front will take some of the rake out of the front fork. This will increase the chances of speed wobble.and make the bike twitchy
Your pedals will be more likely to hit the ground during cornering. You could reduce this by installing shorter cranks. The chances are that the cranks that came with this bike are to big anyway.
The seat post will be more upright. This will put more weight onto your arms.
All in all I would suggest getting the right sized bike. If the frame is too big there isn’t any real way too fix it .
650c bikes are getting more popular these days even for taller riders. Take a test ride on the right sized bike it makes a big difference
